Did you install Eeebuntu on an XP netbook or a Linux netbook

I bought mine with Xandros, but didn't even use it for 10 minutes, knew I wanted something better.

As for Windows, I have this rule about paying money for shoddy products......

901, 2 Gig RAM, Runcore SATA SSD on the way. Xandros lasted 2 days. Have played with Ubuntu and OpenSuse desktops for last year, tryin to break the expensive M$ habit. eeebuntu standard worked great oob, I might have a bit of a problem with the latest BIOS, 1903, thinking of reverting down one. Couldn't be happier with eeebuntu, keep up the good work. eeebuntu config under applications/system tool is a bit flakey, but I'm still hunting the forums. All in all I'm quite pleased with the machine and the OS.

I bought last year an EeePC 701 4G with Xandros and my first action was to install eeeXubuntu 7.10 on it.

Sometimes after I see that Ubuntu team have make a special realease of Ubuntu 8.04 with UNR.
I install it but the UNR desktop don't leave enought screen space to work.

I try also EeeToutou ( a french version of EeePuppy ) but I am not in love with the simple clic to open files and I always howl after that...

I try also EeeOS and another I have forgotten the name ( with a lemon in the logo ).

Now I have Eeebuntu 2.0 Base on a SDHC 16Go Cl6 and a XP lite on the ssd 4Go.

In the SDHC Eeebuntu have a 12Go partition as / and the other 4Go were formated in FAT32 to be a XP second drive (D:).

I set my setup to boot on SDHC and I have installed GrubLoader in SDHC, so I can choice my system at the boot if the SDHC is present and if not present, XP lite boot directly.

I have a 1000HE, which came preloaded with Windows XP Home. I immediately installed Eeebuntu NBR, but I left XP there for StarCraft LAN parties. ^_^

Won't starcraft work under Wine? (if you are not familiar with wine it is the windows compatibility layer that allows windows programs to run on linux, it is in the repository). I'm fairly sure I have read that users have had quite a good success rate at getting starcraft to work. That way you don't need the bloat to run your game :-)

Came with Xandros (EEE 900, Target edition).

Tried Mandriva 2009, for a little, but didn't want to spend the time tuning...
Switched to eeebuntu-NBR.

I have the eeepc 701 which came with Xandros. I didn't like the ui, and the fact it was such a pain to update applications. I ran some custom version of Ubuntu based on 7.10 for quite a while. It required quite a few post-installation hacking to get it just how I wanted, but I liked it for awhile. But then 8.04 came out and I wanted to move. So I tried eeebuntu and there was something I didn't like about it at the time (sorry!)

I ended up installing XP on it. I did like it for quite a while. At first the performance was pretty good, but it got sluggish over time. I had to run disc compression to have enough space, I hated swap being on the main SSD, etc. etc.

So a few days ago I switched to eeebuntu 2.0 standard, and I LOOOOVE it.

I am not a big fan of the netbook remix interface for some reason, Then again, I'm a traditionalist, I ran XP on my PC with the classic login for the longest time, I found the Welcome Screen unappealing. (I've since changed).

As for now, though, I like the classic desktop. And the effects which are on (windows zooming, etc) work well on it.

I found the pre-installed Xandros distro to be quite user-friendly, especially since it has been over a decade that i have not used LINUX. However,

I was quickly disappointed by the poor maintenance of the repository, and the lack of any knowledgeable support, ... except for one moderator based in the USA.

Considering that Asus has been dealing with the west for so many decades, it's also disappointing

that their own support staff have such poor english-language skills.

After a couple of weeks of frustration trying to download / install The Gimp and Google Earth (to name just a few), I gave up and tried Easy Peasy. As much as I don't really like the tabbed desktop, I preferred the one with Eeebuntu, but most importantly, the plethora of applications

(and better default apps) that Eeebuntu provided.

My first attempt was to install Standard right over a stock Xandros installed 900A Eee PC. This did not work; I kept getting an ERROR 2 upon booting.

So I tried a version of XP instead, and it installed fine, no error 2.

But I missed Ubuntu.

THEN, I tried to install Standard over the XP install and all was fine again, no error 2.

Go figure.

I purchased my 1000H (80 GB HD) when I was in USA and preferred the XP because I was unfamiliar with eeeBuntu and I needed a machine that would work for sure to use it during my travel.

When I came back to Brazil, I installed eeeBuntu 2.0 Standard and kept XP in dual boot. Now, I'm using eeeBuntu 95% of the time and just go to XP for one single program (I tried but it didn't install under Wine -- I'm considering to try it with QEMU. If it works, I'll format the XP partition for eeeBuntu).

I chose my eee900 with xandros; i was already familiar with gnu-linux, i started using ubuntu more than 1 year ago, on my first laptop running vista: that was unbearable to me. I still use MS OS, W2000 pro and XP pro only thou. 1st time i saw an eee701 was delighted by that sweet piece of hardware - i did wait to buy the 900 for the better screen. I was satisfied by xandros, but now that i am going to buy a new 901 (xandros too) i am using the 900 to test eeebuntu. Installed 2 versions in the same computer: eeestandard on the large SSD, and eeebase in the small one - an easy partition

i would like to say that the most surprising feature has been the setting of my nokia n70 as umts modem, via usb cable: a simple plug and three clicks, and connection worked. simply amazing! in xandros the connection was way too slow, difficult, and hard-to-set.
at the moment i am focused in solving some little remaining bugs: the microphone (doesn't work with voice recorder, neither in skype) and some weird behaviour of the wireless: sometimes works at boot, sometimes seems dead; pretty clueless 'bout this last thing. I keep searching solutions, and... this is part of the fun

I think that eeebuntu team did a wonderful job, and indeed the OS can't be compared with xandros: the only good thing 'bout xandros is that it *really* works out-of-the-box: my suggest for any eee owner is: switch to eeebuntu if you have some spare time to fix the (very little) bugs.

The only way I could find the 1000HE for purchase was with Windows XP Home. Home never even got a first boot as I had a stick ready to install eeebuntu the day my 1000HE arrived.

Came with XP, because I couldn't find one with Linux pre installed. Replaced XP without booting it.

Disappointed in Asus for not making Linux available on the 1000HE.

I wanted Linux, but in Spain the model 900HA (I wanted this model) only is sold with Windows XP home. I installed eeebuntu 2.0
without no problems. There is only a little problem with WPA/Enterprise in my work. It does not work
