On my son's 1005HA and my 900, using the wireless function key (Function-F2) disables the wireless networking until full reboot. The blue LED toggles on and off, but the NetworkManager never reconnects. NetworkManager and nm-applet are both running. On my 1005PEB, the wireless function key correctly toggles both the blue LED and the wireless networking. All three machines are running EB 4 beta 1.

Obviously we'd prefer to get the wireless function key working correctly. Barring that, is there a way to disable the wireless function key so we do not accidentally disable wireless networking when we intend to suspend (Function-F1) and push the neighboring F2?

I tried the suggestions (sans splash and quiet). No change.

% cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-686 root=/dev/mapper/vg1-root ro force-hpet pciehp.pciehp_force=1 pciehp.pciehp_poll_mode=1 cryptopts=source=/dev/sda6,target=crypt-lvm1,lvm=vg1-root

% cat /etc/default/eee*
cat: /etc/default/eee*

Same behavior: wireless works after boot; toggle wireless off with Fn+F2; toggle wireless "on" with Fn+F2; blue LED comes on;
network manager cannot connect wireless. Must reboot to get wireless back.

Didn't find anything else on the forum regarding 1000HA and this sort of wireless problem. Other system information:

% lspci | egrep -i wireless
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

% uname -a
Linux redfox 2.6.32-5-686 #1 SMP Thu Aug 12 13:38:27 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

What's the content of your /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist?

/etc/modprobe.conf does not exist.
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist is:
# This file lists modules which will not be loaded as the result of
# alias expansion, with the purpose of preventing the hotplug subsystem
# to load them. It does not affect autoloading of modules by the kernel.
# This file is provided by the udev package.

# evbug is a debug tool and should be loaded explicitly
blacklist evbug

# these drivers are very simple, the HID drivers are usually preferred
blacklist usbmouse
blacklist usbkbd

# replaced by e100
blacklist eepro100

# replaced by tulip
blacklist de4x5

# replaced by tmscsim
blacklist am53c974

# these watchdog drivers break some systems
blacklist iTCO_wdt

This is the same on all our EEE PCs.
