Hi guys. (and girls... but probably guys...)

I'm having some trouble with my EeePc 901 with Eeebuntu version 3 installed.

There are two hard drives in the 901. The primary one is 4Gb and the secondary one is 8Gb.

The problem started when I tried to install Picasa version 3 on my system. I had 61mb free which i thought would be enough, and everything seemed to run smoothly. However when the installation was complete (no error messages) there was 0Mb left on my primary partition, and Picasa doesn't seem to work...

I can only assume it ran out of space part way thr0ugh the install and didn't tell me.

The problem is that Picasa doesn't appear in Synaptic Package Manager, or in the Add/Remove applications application so I can't un-install it now.

Does anyone have any tips to purge it from my system?

I would also appreciate any other tips to free up space on my system (I'm a relative noob, so command lines would be appreciated). I read somewhere that /var/lib was a good place to delete things, but whenever I try it tells me that I don't have permission. I run Bleachbit frequently so there isn't much in /tmp. I have set the secondary partition as my /home directory.

Anything else would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tbone

For starters, http://picasa.google.com/linux/ says that 100MB of disk space is required.

How did you install? Did you install like this? Probably not, since it doesn't appear in Synaptic Package Manager.

If you can find out exactly what all of the files that Picasa installed, all you need to do is delete those files.

Thanks for the quick reply.

You're correct, I didn't install it like that. I downloaded the .deb file from the google picasa website and installed it that way.

Do you have any tips to "find out exactly what all of the files that Picasa installed"? I have started off by searching for any files with "picasa" in the name and deleting them. Will this find them all, or will there be remnant files left over?

Ta.

Oh, you're still good.
Code:
sudo dpkg -r picasa

That's if the package name is "picasa". You can find out the name of the package that was installed by
Code:
dpkg -l | grep picasa

That worked a treat! Thanks. :)

You don't have anything to help with my other issue (the missing /var/cahce/apt folder) would you?

why do you have no /var/cache/apt directory? If it's not there, then create it.

The /var/apt/cache problem is the one that I posted in the "Other issues" branch of the forum.

I have it sorted now I think.

Thanks again for your help. :)
