Hello everyone, I have searched the forum and have found some similar topics, but nothing that has helped. I have a 400 GB WB Passport external HD that I have used on my eeebuntu before with no problems. Recently, though I have been unable to mount it. I have tried altering /fstab but that did not work. Thanks for your help!
fdisk info:
Disk /dev/sdc: 400.0 GB, 400088457216 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 48641 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0x5c74ae42
Device Book Start End Blocks ID System /dev/sdc1 1 48642 390709248 7 HPFS/NTFS
$MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0). Failed to mount '/dev/sdc1': input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/Fake RAID then activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details.
I do think it is a hardware malfunction because the drive works perfectly well on a windows machine. I have also used the drive easily on this eeebuntu with no problems. Any advice??

Let's start with... Does it mount by using the mount command? Or better yet, does it auto mount when you plug it into the usb? And also, it looks like the file system type is ntfs, not vfat.
