hi, I recently bought a asus netbook - model eee pc 900 - 1 gb ram /16 gb ssd, with windows xp installed. it ran pretty slow with xp. after a few days of using this slow netbook, I googled information on linux. I figured linux would run faster. I didn't have any experience with linux and was a little leery about installing an operating system that I didn't know. I looked at a few different sites, found the eeebuntu site. the eeebuntu site's download/install instructions was great. it sounded simple enough for me to try. after using eeebuntu nbr for 10 minutes, I deleted windows xp & installed eeebuntu nbr. I'm still new at this, but am happy with my switch to eeebuntu. I read somewhere that eeebuntu works right out of the box, they weren't kidding! it really did! thanks to all for developing this great program.

I got rid of Xandros on the first day! I had been looking at easy peasy e.t.c for a while before I bought my eee 900A, but it was a while before I found eeebuntu.

My 1005HA came with XP, no other choice. Checked out a couple distros but ended up settling on eeebuntu standard. Took a bit of shuffling around to get the wifi and NIC both working (for the most part) but I've been pleased so far.

I usually prefer Windows systems (don't hit me ) cause, well, let's put it that way, it's still easier to use (ok now I'm dead ) but the XP on my eeePC was getting very slow (goddamn swapping all the time when it should not ) and, when you've tried Seven, XP looks like your grandma, you like her but you wouldn't spend all your time with her plus, I've been trying Linux distros for years, to see their "eeevolution" ( ), waiting to see when they could be ready for my noobiness and it's true since the last couple years, it's getting a lot more user-friendly the only thing keeping me on Windows was the video games... but my eeePC is not meant to play (even if it can), it needs a light OS, working out of the box, not 9 year-old , and overall installable from a USB stick since netbooks don't have a DVD drive so I tried a few "eeeDistros" and EB3 quickly won the race, being the smallest (I used base), the most performant (to my eyes) and the most beautiful (it's still important, even on a 9" screen)
PS : I was looking for a Linux version of the eeePC when I bought mine, but the store only had XP versions...

I bought both of my Asus Eee netbooks used. The first was a 4G Surf (701), sans camera. I picked it up from a guy who'd gotten frustrated trying to get Ubuntu up and running on it. I had Eeebuntu 1.0 Std on it that same night. Eeebuntu 3 was running on my Windows-loaded 900/16 the morning after I picked it up. It would have been installed earlier, but I was curious what XP looked like on the Eee's SSD.
