I'm really looking forward to the new direction.

I have an original 701 4G Surf EeePC. After Cruncheee offered no clear upgrade path to their 8.10 based offering, I searched for a replacement OS. I tried UNR 9.10alpha and Eeebuntu LXDE beta. I was getting ready to start working with the Debian EeePC project, maybe with Squeeze.

But I am very glad to hear the new direction you are taking with Eeebuntu. My recent experiences with Ubuntu 9.04 and Ubuntu 9.10 beta have started to disenchant me with the brand, and fewt's comments just as I'm getting into Eeebuntu were disheartening and confirming my own assessment of Ubuntu's recent trend.

I have used sidux, and liked the experience, although I agree with the first poster about some disconcerting politics there. I look forward to being involved with your incarnation of Debian Unstable, on my EeePC and other machines.

Good luck, and kudos on your direction, which syncs very well with what I'm interested in working on, on my EeePC and other machines.

Hi, I'm new at forum but I've benn using eeebuntu 3.0 for months. I' m from Argentina.

It' s a great new for me the pass to Debian from Ubuntu. When I bought my eeepc it comes with w$ xp :x and I downloaded both Eeebuntu and Debianeeepc, but while I couldn't install Debianeepc, Eeebuntu works great from the begininng. I stay very glad with Eeepc but I really prefer Debian. So, It's a great step and a new and delicious challenge for the development team.

Regards

I am really excited about the team's decision. I share your disappointment with the way Ubuntu develops and I like your 'no nonsense' approach. I keep my fingers crossed for the coming release.

Switching to Debian is a powerful and good choice!

I think this was a good decision, but do you think there could be any upgrade issues?

Of course there will but they'll be ironed out before they are moved from the testing repo into the main repo so (in theory) updates shouldn't be an issue.

Steve.

Eeebuntu based on debian sounds wonderful for my little Eee PC!

Steve, I just want to say this:
I have been running Eeebuntu base for a year now, I've done alot of distro hopping but always come back here. Your distro is absolutely wonderfully made, and its OOTB status puts it light years ahead of other distros. I thank you and the dev team for your hard, but very fruitful, work.
I can't code, but am still offering my help

(LXDE might be better than KDE4)

Thank you again

That idea is ok in principle but there are always different views and politics. At the moment this team is politics free. We have a free reign over what gets in and what is pulled out and we are not flying the FOSS only banner. Our belief is, if it's free (beer) and it works then it's in (potentially). There will be an option on the install to keep the FOSSers happy.

Steve

I like eeebuntu because it works. I did have to fight sound a little, but mostly all of the hardware on my 1000he just worked. If you can maintain this with the move away from Ubuntu, and it is easier for the developers, then I fully support it. I am glad you are not falling victim of the FOSSers. Most people just want things to work. I don't want to get a lecture on the benefits of open source alternatives to mp3; I just want my music to play (and it is all mp3).

I like the idea that the new "eeebuntu" will have access to new applications faster then on Ubuntu. That is my one frustration with Ubuntu. A new version of Open Office is released and there is no easy way to install it without cryptic commands and confusing changes. I am no a Linux geek and will likely never be one. I just want to use it.

Thanks for the work you and the other developers do. Everyone I have shown eeebuntu to has loved it.

Charles

What about compatibility and similarity between the Desktop loaded w/ Ubuntu and the netbook w/ the future Eeevolution (or whatever name it will be)?
I'm not a computer geek neither. I don't want to learn another OS (because of issues w/ monitor colorimeters in linux, I still have to keep windows for the time being). I want to be able to personalize Eee... the same and easy way I do it on Ubuntu. I must be able to connect the eeepc & desktop together without having to take a networking course. I need to transfer data from the desktop Evolution 2 the eeepc evolution & be able 2 sync the palm pilot to 1 or the other.
Bottom line, so far I really like Eeebuntu because you can work on the desktop or on the eeepc without making any difference. This is very handy & efficient !!
Is it gonna change or not?

We are building on debian and you will always have the latest stable versions of applications as they become available.

We are still fans of ubuntu's ease of use but differ on build issues. We are using gnome still and to users it shouldn't make too much difference and all should run better than before!!!

We aren't rewriting the desktop experience just refining what a good desktop should be!
