Autohide sounds like a good addition.

Is this likely to affect the beta 2 release?
I.e. are you delaying it to include 0.5.0?

0.5.0 isn't out yet, so no
but you'll be able to update it.

I see that Sourceforge are already offering version 0.5.2, although I am not clear what the status of this version is.

I have downloaded version 0.5.3 from Sourceforge and compiled it and it seems to work. The autohide feature seems to work. The panel doesn't gently glide on and off the screen, rather it appears and disappears as you move the mouse to the appropriate edge of the screen, but I wouldn't see that as a problem, more an indication that it isn't wasting too many resources.

For those of you who haven't installed much from source code, it seems to install it in /usr/local/bin rather than in /usr/bin, leaving the original version in /usr/bin, so that it should be easy to roll back by deleting the newly installed version.
