Here are some scripts to reduce disk writing and wireless power. I guess it should also speed up the system a bit if your eee is not under heavy writing.

I got the newest kernel, but I am not able to write into /proc/sys/vm/* althought the permission is rw-r-r (writable using root). It always says permission denied. Can anyone tell me what is wrong here? Any solution to that?

It's already integrated. The parameters are changed in power saver mode, then restored in all of the higher modes.

Do you mean integrated into your acpi code or it is integrated in the general kernel?
I also have a question for you, what exact dependency does eee-acpi-utilities 1.1 have? (I mean just the background engine not the tray stuff). Does the SHE engine and fan control solely depend on eee-laptop.ko now? What about hotkeys? are they window manager independent?

It's integrated into the eeepc utilities 1.0.x and 1.1.x series. You can find the kernel scripts in /etc/acpi/eeepc/{insert powermode}.d.
The SHE engine relies on eee-laptop, but you can get better overclock / underclock control using the netbook module I forked from asus-eee. The hotkeys work in the shell which is one of the reasons I broke it up into separate components. The fan control still requires netbook.ko because the asus-laptop module doesn't support all Eee PCs (like mine).

Hi, fewt,
Thanks for you information. Can I ask you a favor? Is it possible that you create a clean eee-acpi-utilities with the need for only eee-laptop? (I assume fan control via eee-laptop should be working with 901). The configuration of the control is done by the scipt only (no need for GUI, but only the regular configuration file and maybe a script to change between the 3 SHE mode. You can assume eee-laptop.ko is already loaded)? I am asking this because I am trying to port the eee-acpi-utilites to Express Gate/splashtop (as an additional package, rather than recompile the kernel and other stuff). I just need a well configured daemon to sit in the backend to do the work, there is no need for GUI since EG offers limited graphical libs and no notification tray. I got EG to work on my 901 with all the hardware, but there is no fan control and the CPU is always set to 800mhz (on atom 1.6).
