I just installed eeebuntu 3.0 standard a few days ago and I'm loving it so far.

An interesting thing just started happening and I'm hoping someone here has run into this before. I wasn't able to find anything on the forums because I frankly wasn't sure what to search for.

Basically, I am having problems clicking things. For example, when I go to click on the Applications menu, the drop down list will appear for a split second, then hide. This applies to all drop down menus (in firefox, thunderbird, etc). Also, if I get a pop up box, somehow the box will automatically close a split second after it appears. If I start typing something into firefox's address bar, it will get erased after I type just 1 or 2 characters. This doesn't happen on all text fields, just ones where a drop down menu will appear as it does in firefox with suggested addresses. It is as if I were just holding the enter or escape key down.

I've seen problems like these when there is something funky going on with your input device (mouse starts to scroll unexpectedly - and actually as of writing this message, I just noticed this started happening too!) I'm not sure exactly what caused this to happen, as i was running perfectly for about two days and haven't made any changes (that I'm aware of) to the system. I haven't had enough time to completely troubleshoot and test, but I'm hoping someone may have an idea of what is going on.

Thanks!

Are you using the touchpad or an external mouse?
If the touchpad, is it set too sensitive that it's picking up on the slightest of touches and sending a mouse-click when you don't want one?

Thats something interesting I'll need to try. No external mouse in use.

What is odd is that as of right now, I'm clicking away without any problems. Troubleshooting inconsistent issues is always difficult :/

When this was happening, I did do several hard shut downs (as I couldn't get to the shut down menu!). This didn't fix the problem when it was occurring. I will be using the machine over the next few days and try to see if I can figure out when exactly it starts happening.

gth747y,

Next time you can't get to the shutdown menu with the mouse, you might consider CTRL+ALT+F1 (or any F1-F6). Once logged in there (i.e.: non-GUI), type:
Code:
sudo /sbin/shutdown -h now

IMHO, that's always better than a hard shutdown; you don't want to make a bad situation worse.

Less to remember:
Code:
sudo halt
