Is there an Eeebuntu IRC support channel?

I think there should be if there isn't. I think that some people might find it useful, and if not then we can just have a chit-chat.

It might be a good diversion for traffic from the main site too, help keep the server alive.

I don't know how to set one up/administrate one, but I'd hang around in there and lend a hand.

That's been talked about, and I don't think it's gonna happen. Maybe, though. Problem is that the channel will probably be empty and quiet and be a flop.

I think that there is a big enough user base for it to be a success. The only problem is that most EeePC users bought EeePC's because they are not very technically difficult to use. IRC is one of those things that non-techies tend to not use isn't it.

Anyway, I remain hopeful. :)

indeed it has been discussed. We may look into other means of a 'chat' or IRC system in the coming weeks after eb3 has been released. :) Prob run afew polls after the release for users to decide on a few things

Although not totally what you asked, there is #ubuntu-eee on Freenode. #eeebuntu is forwarded to this room to.

I personally think an IRC channel would be a good idea, especially if we could get a non-crappy web interface setup for it. #ubuntu, the main support channel for regularly has 1000+ users, mostly beginners. If we put a link somewhere easily seen by everybody (i.e. Firefox homepage, getting started docs) I think it could be a productive channel.

I agree- I'd love to see this channel up and running. I'm a complete noob, and yet I taught myself IRC upon purchasing an Eee because I knew the core of the machine was open and free - so it would be cool to have a nice link in the Eeebuntu interface and maybe a link to install the chat software needed (or is there already software on there?!!)

I have a chat service at statux.org. It's as easy to use as:

telnet bbs.statux.org

Pidgin can do IRC and is included in 3.0 Standard.

Does the #eeebuntu channel exist on freenode, it says "you must be invited".

no official chat room, but I wouldn't be surprised if steve or paul registered a channel just in case.

actually your not far off :D

we did consider putting on a chatroom some time ago but didn't have the man hours to ensure it would be well used. We plan to open one as well as a webportal to it via IRC when we launch eb4 stable and the new website :D

We can use freenode until then, who owns the #eeebuntu channel, and can I get an invite? :D
