Here's what I've done with eeebuntu Standard 1.0 and it seems to work:

  • Booted Eee from Pupeee (or other alternative distro) on a flash drive or SD card
  • Inserted target flash drive (sdx, >=size of SSD) and cloned existing SSD installation
    # dd if=/dev/hdc of=/dev/sdx
  • Removed and reinserted flash drive
  • Generated and installed new UUID for flash drive partition:
    # uuidgen
    # tune2fs -U xxxxx-yyyyy-zzzzz /dev/sdx1
  • Removed and reinserted flash drive; checked new UUID:
    ls -lF /dev/disk/by-uuid/
  • Mounted flash drive and updated /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab with new UUID
  • Booted Eee from flash drive

Although it appears to be working nicely, does anyone see any pitfalls which I may have missed?
Comments most welcome!
