I am now running eeepc-acpi-utilities (fewt) instead of eee-control.
This is version .18 and fixes the bug with needing to enter your password at log out.
Recommend these scripts over eee-control - at least on my 1000.
Does it have all the functionality of eee-control? I like the ability to turn on/off the camera, card reader, bluetooth from eee-control, as well as configure my hotbuttons for things like toggling the touchpad on and off. Would I lose that using eeepc-acpi-utilities?
As far as needing to put a pasword in to log off, this is a permission issue. I fixed it, and wish to heck I could remember where I did it. If you do a Google search this has something to do with a check for logged on users when a power down function is called. There is somewhere in the settings you can turn this check off. It is mostly used only for multiple user systems to make sure there are no other users logged in when powering down.

You can make any key do whatever you want it to do. Possibilities are endless. It works off a config file. There is no GUI, though. But all that does is take up space on the panel.

I have had to revert to the standard gsynaptics drivers as I was suffering the gsynaptics-elantech bug: it will NOT start in my sessions and gsynaptics-init generates errors.
from what i can tell, the issue is a incorrectly named parameter that gsynaptics-init tries to pass to synclient.
the offending one is CoastingSpeedTreshold.
it should really be CoastingSpeed.
sadly the elantech variant of gsynaptics is lagging behind gsynaptics proper (x.7 vs x.14, or something like that).

There is a 'fix' for the touchpad that will allow disabling the touchpad while typing and also using a key for toggling the touchpad on/off - where syndaemon does NOT turn the touchpad on if it was already toggled off.

spent quite a bit of time testing several of the 'fixes' for getting the touchpad to work (meaning - ability to disable the touchpad while typing AND the ability to toggle the touchpad on/off). I posted my findings in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2025&p=8369#p8369

Love this thread. Really saved my typing from going all over the place. Made keyboard comfortable to use again.
Did anyone figure out restoring the two finger scrolling feature. Not a huge price to pay to regain typing ability, but I llike two finger scrolling feature. Did anyone has both working at the same time, i.e. disabling touchpad while typing AND two finger scroll?

I saw on another page, that you can enable it by installing gsynaptics-elantech using apt. After installing you have to go into preferences, to uch pad and enable two finger rotation.
