Everytime I boot up the Power manager reports my battery has 1.6 % Capacity, meaning is it broken or old.
The Power Statistics report a total of 0.8Wh of an intended 43.7 adn 8.1 volts.
I recieved this warning message this morning at university

Power Warning
You have 274 minutes of battery power remaining (100% of the total capacity).
To avoid losing your work:
• suspend your laptop to save power,
• plug your laptop into external power, or
• save open documents and shut your laptop down.

Which I suppose is an improvement..

Now I can get 4 lessons of typing (and game playing) before I have to hook into the power socket, so the battery is still good.

In other respects it is accurate, towards the end of the 3+hours I get a 10% warning when i expect it.

Question: Does anyone else have similar issue, or is it just me? Is there a fix. None of it is critical, just anoying.
Thanks

Yes, I am getting this on my 701 and my friend's 701, although I think that it was reporting 1.95% of
power available. My battery was good enough to last for an hour before dropping to 30% of charge according to the Gnome thingy. I suspect that the thingy is mis-reading some value, for while my battery is passed its prime, it is not as bad as is reported.

i get 1.9% capacity remaining on my 900, i just turn that message off using the configuration editor, open it up and go to apps>gnome-power-manager>notify and uncheck the box for low_capacity, that stops the annoying message, this is a known bug with the gnome power manager and has been there for quite some time.

I have the same problem with Windows 7 and a two different battery utility programs on my other EEEPC 900. Apparently, the BIOS reports the design capacity (43.7 Wh reported); however, the full charge level (0.8 Wh) and current charge level (varies but is less than or equal to 0.8 Wh) appear to be under reported indicating a nearly failed battery. My battery life, although short (less than two hours), has not significantly changed.

Hmmm...
I am having similar difficulties. In fact, I just purchased a new 10400ma battery for my 701-4g which is running EEEbuntu 3.0 as I finally accepted that the battery may have died of old age.

But even with the new battery, the EEEpc is haywire in the extreme on battery use. I am about to try reloading the whole OS to see if the behavior will stop. My numbers are stuck at that 0.8Wh limit, but with the new battery I do have more uses time.

I just can't get the EEEpc to reliably charge the new device. It goes up to a point, then thinks it is full. But the pop-up on the icon indicates it is something less (that little pop-up appears to be more accurate that a right click on the battery icon).

I guess I will forever be stuck with the 43.7Wh indication if that is in BIOS. Is there a way to disconnect all this BIOS reporting nonsense and just have the battery charge properly?

The 10400ma battery is a terrific addition and I can't see why it must create problems.

Cycle it three times, disable power management (killall gnome-power-manager) run it on battery until it dies. Charge it for 8-14 hours, repeat. After the third cycle you should see it improve significantly.

This is a known bug with gnome-power-manager and the 701's battery. The 701's battery is atypical in some way I cannot remember, but if you search this, it comes up as a bug in launchpad.

I use some kde apps from sid, so I went ahead installed kpowersave and then just disabled the gnome power management in startup. kpowersave does not report the error and shows a proper charge.
