I installed eb4 on my 901 last night, but cannot get wifi to connect.Everything else seems to work fine, including ethernet (which I am using right now). No problems with wifi and eb4 on my 1000he, so I might guess that it's a hardware issue.

When I enter the "hidden wireless connection" dialogue, and enter the ssid and wpa2 password it chugs along for awhile, then reports back that my network requires a password and asks me to enter it and try again. It does this indefinitely.

When I had eb3 on the 901, I had a similar problem with network manager. I switched to wicd and had no wifi problems. But I would like to get network-manager to work. Perhaps unrelated, but jupiter does not show enable/disable LAN. It only lists that option for wifi, bluetooth and touchpad.

i answered your post on eeeuser, you can install wicd on eb4, just make sure to uninstall gnome network manager.

Thanks, Rusty. I followed your advice from eeeuser and installed wicd and uninstalled gnome network manager in a terminal (since this is apparently not possible through synaptic), but still could not get a wifi connection. That's when I despaired and posted here. But it seems that the purge was incomplete, and I was still able to open network manager alongside of wicd. I did another purge and network manager promptly crashed and wicd promptly connected without any further problems. Yea!

I still regret not being able to use network-manager, since I preserve this crazy hope of getting wifi through my mobile phone one day and I gather that wicd does not support this. Is there any hope of getting network-manager to work with the card in my 901--which is a rt2860, I think?

network manager has never played nice with the rt2860, even now, after i compile the module myself to get better support, nm doesnt play nice, what you can do is install nm, then go to startup applications and disable nm, that way you can have both wicd and nm installed and if you ever need nm, like for tethering your phone to it, you can enable it in the startup applications (and disable wicd in the process) and use nm.

Yeah, I kinda figured it would require something like that. As good as the 900 series eeepc's are, the rt2860 is just a fact about them that has to be reckoned with. I ran into a similar problem with trying to run puppeee on mine off an sd card. I wonder if it's worth it simply to put in a different card.

i put in my atheros card and it worked fine, the problem is really just with the rt2860 driver in linux, being the free driver it doesnt work as well, either way thats pretty much the only workaround to working with the ralink card and using a mobile phone for internet.

Is it possible to install a different driver for the rt2860?

youd have to compile the nonfree driver from the ralink website, its not too hard, just follow the instructions given in the package
