So foolish. I had quite the exercise getting Jupiter to work initially way back when. Now it has been working flawlessly for a year or so, I really depend on it.
The other night I was doing something, can't even really remember why, but I decided Jupiter might be the problem, so I reinstalled it. Big mistake.
Although clicking on the taskbar icon and making choices still functions fine I have lost my most important keybindings. I still have the acpi_osi=Linux in my grub startup line. It seems my keystrokes don't even get to Jupiter as I have show keys="1" in the /etc/default/jupiter-eee-support configuration and keys are NEVER shown.
BTW Fewt, in attempting to fix this I d/l'ed the 0.0.49 version, no help, and additionally, whereas before under device control I had wifi, bluetooth and touchpad options (cam has never worked), I now have only the touchpad listed. I have a bluetooth dongle, but the .38 version recognized it.
A year ago, I had the same symptoms and it was cured by installing eee-acpi-scripts. I have reinstalled those as well, no help. They are loading as a service and jupiter loads in the startup apps.

I'm at my wits end, have spent several hours on it. I saw the Wiki entry about keybinding thru gconf, but besides the fact that I'm not sure how to get some of those key values it seems that it would be more proper to fix it the right way, less trouble in the long run.
F2 (wifi), F5-F6 (backlight) and the volume keys F10-F12 still work, I assume because I saw one of Fewt's posts mentioning that these are handled elsewhere, not by Jupiter (well, unsure about wifi). I use F3 (touchpad toggle), F7 (screen blank) and F9 (sys monitor) constantly and am lost without them.

Add acpi_osi="Linux" to the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.conf and reboot.

Fewt, he said that he still has that in his grub startup line.

sputnik, reinstall acpi and acpid. I can't remember which one. Then do the keys work?

Oh right, that's what I get for replying before coffee. :/

Make sure the ACPI daemon is started, that would also cause it.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Well in the text startup screen it showed acpi as starting ok, but I reinstalled both acpi and acpid, no joy. And still only touchpad in device control.

I bet you are missing the Eee PC Laptop (eeepc-laptop) kernel module.

lsmod shows this in 1st post:
eeepc_laptop 9355 0

I don't know what that means, but it seems to be loaded.
Edit: The 0 seems to mean that no processes are using it, I feel that's some kind of clue for minds greater than mine. Additionally, further down the list is this:
pci_hotplug 18065 1 eeepc_laptop

By running sudo acpid stop and then starting it again I get all keys working except screen blank. Still only the touchpad in Jupiter>device control. Will update when I know more, probably boot-up sequence? We'll see.
