Hi I am trying to remove the boot loader or not have one in the installation at all.

I read in a few areas where there was an "issues" with the beta installer and you must select install boot loader from advanced options during installation ? I was able to install only with this selected.

Any direction / assistance form the community is appreciated.

Tnx

Tony

If you are going to boot into Linux, you must have some kind of boot loader, whether it be grub or lilo or syslinux

I don't understand what you are asking.

Why does my GRUB show two versions? Eeebutu GNU w/ Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 and Eeebuntu GNU w/ Linux 2.6.32-5-686

What's the difference in them? Do I need both? How do I get one removed?

Those are different kernels. The kernel is the base of the operating system, and controls the hardware in your system. If you really want to remove one, search for linux-image-2.6.32 in Synaptic and remove one

@Tortel,
OK, you make it sound like I shouldn't want to delete one of them. Why do I want two kernels? Do I need the extra one in case one pukes out? Is the 2.6.32- 5 the latest kernel and the -trunk more basic? What is the difference in the two kernels? (I mean that from a newbies' perspective, not a highly technical one.....like one has the latest features that the eb4 team wants to use and the other is more basic) How can I change the order in the grub so that 2.6.32-5 is at the top of the list and is the default one to boot? I don't always just sit there with a ready finger to scroll down to the other kernel. ;D
Sorry for the stupid questions. It's just where I am at this point in the Linux process. Thanks

SEarch for Boot-Up manager in synaptic, it's a GUI app to manage GRUB.

open up the terminal and type in "sudo gedit /etc/default/grub" (without quotes) and where it says timeout, change it to 1.

then once youve updated the file type this into the terminal: "sudo update-grub" (again without quotes) and thats it.
