Hi this is my first post on the forum I'm only nine but I've always used Linux.
I have currently got a dead Eee Pc 900 because the eb4 installer stops at 81%. please can you help!!!
1. I torrented something called "eb4-b1.iso" then wrote it to a dvd+r disk 2. I was connected to ethernet internet conection 3. on startup I selected "try" next time "install" (they both ran it live)
so I tried Unetbootn I booted from it - it couldn't read it so I tried startup disk creator it stopped writing and said "checksums do not match. retry?" it did that every time. I think it was a bad file. where can I get a good torrent or direct download? Could you tell me if I'm meant to use a dvd+r or a dvd-r and how do I put my home folder on my 16g and root on 4g

Hi purple-mika-me, and welcome to the Aurora forum. 1st of all, you should probably post a question like yours in the "installation issues" section of the forum, it would be more readily noticed that way (and is a more appropriate place for it ) Now, on to your question. You will find all of the answers here: http://forum.eeebuntu.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5080 The 1st post in that thread gives valuable information as to installing, particularly the selection of sda as the volume to install to. And if you read a few of the replies, you will see that it is common for the install to quit at 81% IF you are not connected to the internet. At that point in the install it is trying to connect to repositories to download the language specifics for your language. The EEEbuntu 4 Beta (now called Aurora) is quite mature by now having been used by many people for almost a year. Virtually every possible thing that you will come across you will find in these pages somewhere, so get to know the search function and you will be successful with any problem you may find. As far as the DVD usage, I don't believe it matters, as long as it is a format that your computer can read/write. However, most people use a memory stick, so you may find it easier to solve any problems using one of those, if you can get your hands on one, as you will find many people referring to that. Good luck!

I don't know anything about installing operating systems so can you tell me a bit more . also I need to install all of "/" to 4g ssd but "/home" to 16g ssd. I searched and didn't find anything about it and my model of eeepc.

The installer has been borrowed from ubuntu and isn't quite a full fit for a purely debian based distro hence we are writing our own installer which is more debian friendly.
As for compiz, try running the updates, there are quite a few package changes since the initial beta iso.
Steve.

A fatal error has been detected in update-manager.
The program will now exit.
in the terminal:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
