Piece by piece: First off, the wireless interface (WLAN) was being disabled in bios every time the OS booted. In the following file:
/etc/init.d/eeepc-restore

Comment the line near the bottom that reads:
$EEEPC_PATH/eeepc-wifi-toggle.sh poweroff || true

Like so (Commented)

Reboot and go into the bios, and enable the WLAN. It should now no longer be disabled on boot. However, at this point, though it was enabled in bios, it still did not work in the OS (it did not show up in the wicd network manager preferences and no networks were detected, even though the blue light was on). It did show up when entering lspci in the terminal at the bottom as Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wirelesss PCI Express Adapter (rev 01) at this time.

Secondly, I noticed that the wireless worked fine when I was running in live USB mode even though it didn't in installed OS. I had a look into the wicd network manager (the network icon in the system tray) and found this:
Right click on the tray icon -> click 'Connect' -> go into 'Preferences on the top bar of the connections screen.
You will see a window that looks like the one below. I've circled in red the wireless connection interface.



During live USB mode, the interface labeled 'wlan0' showed up in the box as shown. However, when I went and booted into the installed OS, the box was empty (and thus no networks could be detected). For some reason, I thought to simple enter 'wlan0' into the box in the installed OS and hit OK. I restarted, made sure that the WLAN was still enabled in bios, and voila! the wireless connections showed up and I could connect just as in the live mode.

Please note that although I tried both of these solutions (which didn't solve my problem), neither of them were used in this scenario.

Hey guys,

Looking for some help here. Running LXDE 3.2 b2 on an EEE 900. In the live usb mode everything works great, including the wireless. However, when I install the OS, wireless networks no longer show up. In the preferences tab of the network manager there are no available wireless interfaces in the drop down box (it shows up in live mode). Furthermore, the WLAN is reset to disabled in the bios every time I boot the OS.

Following the post here:

and commenting the line
$EEEPC_PATH/eeepc-wifi-toggle.sh poweroff || true
stops the disabling of WLAN on startup. However, even when it is no longer disabled in the bios, it still does not show up as an interface in the network manager.

Lastly, I followed all of the steps in this thread but still have the same issue.

Any suggestions? This OS would be absolutely perfect if only I could solve this one problem.
