I am a windows baby. I bought an asus eee 901 because it was cheap. I now feel like chucking it in the bin. I want to install eeebuntu lxde to speed it up. I am stuck. I am using a usb dvd/cd drive as every time I try to use a usb memory stick it just tells me that /tmp/v4c79376.bin is full and to clear some space. I have tried to find this but no luck. So everytime I try by using a cd I burned from your site (yes using a windows XP pc) it will not let me burn to the cd on the asus. What happens is the cd boots all seems well. The initial screen with the floating line closes and then the screen goes dark, then several changes of black on the screen then nothing the drive goes quiet and it just sits there. The only way to move on this is to press the off switch then the cd drive comes to life and ejects the cd. It then asks me to press enter to quit. Please help all you linux babes. Treat me as if I know less than nothing and am in fact an idiot and you get the level. I really want to lick this as my asus still holds my facination as it is shiney black and small. thank you for listening.

1. You may want to download the image again to see if it may have been damaged during the download. 2. Here are some sites others have found useful:
Thank you for your help. You really don't now how much it is appreciated to get a bit of help. I will certainly look at the sites you recommended. Perhaps there is hope for me after all.
Thanks for the reassurance. I tried to install from a memory stick but did not succeed so I burned the cd again (it failed) and used ctrl alt F1 to see what was actually happening.
If I tried to run it as a demo the error message was
aborted because junk in compressed archive invalid format err=1 Kernel panic not synching VFS variable to mount root fs on unknown block 104,1.
If I try to install the os it fails at
running dkms auto installation service for kernel 2.6.28-11- generic.
Any thoughts. although I have been looking up it is too advanced for me as the advice seems to conflict with other advice and I am not sure what to do.
ignore this I was being an idiot - I am too ashamed to say what I was doing. I am still trying. One question why cant I get netbootin to run as administrator. I am stuck at that point.
