I will be building a new beta, fixing the errors logged here so far. If you have any further errors please log them before end of Wednesday 15th July.

Thanks for testing and posting your comments.

Steve.

Steve, and how do you think, approximately when will the final release be?

This should be the last beta.

Build in progress. There is an issue at the moment, the build is still almost 1GB which seems a lot so I am stripping out the dev libraries I used to compile everything. So far so good and nothing broken. We'll be done by Monday 27th July (gives me a little time to test I haven't introduced more bugs during the chop process).

Steve.

Will the LXDE edition address the regression with the Ralink 2860 drivers that causes failure to connect to WPA/WPA2 APs?

I downloaded the first LXDE beta and the problem was present and I've been unable to fix in regular Eeebuntu. In Mint and Jaunty I reverted to an older driver.

Problem is described here:

The launcher is already compiled and installed, it the current version it is just shown in the menu. Run lxlauncher from the command line and it'll load up. You will, however, need to add the .desktop files to display applications within it.

I had some niggling issues with the final build this weekend and hoping to get them out. It seems I got the install down to just 500mb (with firefox 3.5) but I must have taken out some dependencies. I'll be fixing these over the next couple of days. In this version lxlauncher can be launched from the menu (menu problems are now fixed).

Steve,

I want to take a moment to thank you and your team for all your hard work! I know others have said it and I hope I am not taking away from their gratitude. As a Linux enthusiast I sometimes forget all the hard work people put into making a system work, sharing ideas, and promoting freedom of choice.
I been looking for a Linux OS that is compatible with my 1000HE, configurable, but comes with some scripts to be usable after installation. The issue I have found is when one wants such a OS, the size of the OS increases. LXDE has been in my view for approximately a year. However, unless one takes a approach like the eeebuntu development team and compile programs from source, an average user will end with programs, due to dependencies, they cannot rid themselves of. (i.e. I tried to uninstall every bit of evolution and end up removing gnome programs I want/need. Moreover, I tried to unstall Banshee [due to limitations or OHS in me creating and importing play lists, and Brasero is set to be removed during the next "$sudo apt-get -y autoremove && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get clean")
I must remember that compiling from source limits the amount of "auto" search/install using package managers, IMHO.
Enough of me rambling, thank you all and I hope to have a fast system, small footprint OS (2G), OpenOffice Writer (less all the dependencies), FireFox 3.5 or better, with great battery life (now at 7.5 hours with wifi on, bluetooth and webcam off) that all fits on a small SSD - Giving my 64GB to the wife and purchasing a 16GB in the future. Laterz.....

Any chance of getting a download soon? I'm fixing someone's 2GB Surf, and I have to give it back to them and fly home on Tuesday. Should I just muddle through with beta 1 or Debian?
