Up to now the the NBR 3 system has been working great for me. However, a couple of days ago I discovered I could switch from the netbook revision interface to the normal desktop with this desktop switcher. But on returning to the NBR interface I received an error message - somehing like: "…settings could not be loaded". Then things started to go more and more wrong, up to the point when I could not log in because the keyboard gave a faulty response. For example "u" gives "u7" and "8" gives "89". And after this, worse still - the SSD installation won't boot at all; error message already at "Grub loading".

I have now tried booting from a live usb stick (unetbootin 319) but the keyboard problem persists! What is even more puzzling, when I connect an external keyboard it works OK in the live session. I have seen in the forum that there is a bug in the desktop switcher, but could it have messed up my keyboard to this extent? I will try reinstalling Xandros tomorrow to see what happens. Anyone with similar experiences or otherwhise able to offer a clue?

Thanks!

Hi:

I started to look at netbooks over the weekend and with so many similar choices I was undecided on hardware to buy, in particular, I was looking at a Dell and ASUS EeePC 1005HA...but when I learned about Eeebuntu, I made up my mind!

So, I just ordered one and the first thing I want to do to it is install Eeebuntu, and I had one question which seems to be kind of answered in this thread...the NBR distro with an interface as shown in http://eeebuntu.org/index.php?page=nbr seems great for the wife and her blog reading, etc; but for when I do my maintenance and other things I could use the interface offered by the Standard distro as in this picture http://eeebuntu.org/index.php?page=standard.

...so, question, are these two really two different distros, or can one choose one "window manager" versus another at login time (session)?

...or, what is that switcher the one post above is talking about...is that what I think it is? a switcher to switch between the Standard and NBR interfaces?

If it does not work quite well on the fly, I wouldn't mind if I need to log out and log back in...is that possible?

gsal

Hi,

First a follow-up on my initial post. The keyboard issue seems to be a hardware problem, since it remained after reinstalling Xandros. I have now sent the computer for repair under warranty.

Back to the above question. Once logged in you can change to the standard interface, and then it should be just like the standard Eeebuntu version. I did not play with it so much, so I don't know if a restart from the standard desktop will give you that desktop back or the NBR interface. But I would expect the former option. Anyway, you don't get to choose at login.

/MÃ¥rten
