1000 SSD Rotate Screen makes scrambled screen. UPDATED SOLUTION
Step 1. To get back to normal use Fn+F7 (Detect Monitor). It is the icon with the monitor icon with an X in it. However the screen will be rotated and scrambled when you turn it on next time.
Step 2. Go to System > Preferences > Display. Hit the Apply button. The settings should read Refresh rate 60Hz, Resolution 1024 x 600, Rotation Normal. You don't have to change them because the detect monitor Fn+F7 reset them.
You can still fix the setting in the scrambled state if you left click in the top icon bar area, and as each drop down appears determine if it might be the tray by using the down arrow and counting (Webcam is highlighted already) so 1(WiFI), 2(Bluetooth), 3(Touchpad), 4 (the blue select highlight disappears), 5(Screen Resolution), 6(Rotate Screen). Hit the Enter button when you get to rotate screen. You have to do this twice to get back to normal.
You can't really see the tray but you just scooch along the icon bar and left click until one of the drop downs acts like the tray with the disappearing highlight select on 4. This is true for the default theme I don't know about other themes.
You have to scooch because the mouse goes all crazy and only want to go up and down. Left and right is kind of an inconsistant diagonal swoop. Making loops works best to get back to the right side for another scooch across the icon bar if you don't find it the first time.
Its more FUN than sudoku!
What file do you edit to reset the screen rotation? I found on eeepc-acpi.local #This is the trigger key to cycle through screen rotation. # KEY_ROTATE="0000001c"

This problem is also present on Standard 3.0. My specific computer is a 900HA, so I have to use Fn+F5, but the essential methodology of the fix is correct. Thanks, by the way, for providing this guide, as I ran into the same problem when I clicked the "rotate screen" button out of curiosity.

I know it's and OLD topic, but I ran into this issue a few minutes back. Is there a solution that makes the rotation of the screen actually work (eeepc 901)?
