I know that Ubuntu has had FDE since 8.04. My question is, does Eeebuntu 3.0 have FDE functionality?

My netbook contains some privileged information so I absolutely cannot have it falling into the wrong hands if it's stolen. I currently use TrueCrypt on XP but I'd really like to switch to Eeebuntu, just wondering about the security aspect. I've installed Ubuntu with FDE on several computers in the past and had no problem, so I'm hoping that Eeebuntu also will allow this.

It is possible to set up the FDE manually. You just have to install some additional packages.

I have FDE running on eebuntu 4 without any problems.

As extra peace of mind you might want to look at http://preyproject.com/ as a free way to possibly retrieve your netbook if it is stolen.

I dont't think that kind of software is very useful. The first thing a thief would do is to format the HDD.

I wrote a howto for FDE on Eeebuntu 4 on my blog. I'd be happy if someone could check it out and give some feedback.
