Many thanks Guitaraholic, that has fixed it. Updating without any problems now.

Were there a mess of progs removed from the repo list? I now have a large number of (auto removable) and (local or obsolete) programs installed now in Synaptic :( Some of them I'm positive are not removable (netbook-dkms!!) and some I'm confused as to why they're not in the repo at all anymore (conky)...

Great, thanks. I'll have to track down the chain for the rest (there's a mess of OOO dependencies it claims it doesn't need any more and I'm pretty sure it's wrong...). I haven't changed my sources or anything, so I'm not sure what's going on yet.

That's what I would have said too, but it includes openoffice.org-base, -calc, -common, -impress... You see where I'm going with this :P

The list is odd in general, as it includes eeeconfigure, eee-acpi-utilities, several libxcb packages, a bunch of ooo, sqlite3, and more. For now I'm just not uninstalling any of those things, but eventually I'd like to have my install properly synced.

Sounds like a metapackage was deleted that depended on all of the binaries in your list.

One thing you can do to remove them from being orphaned would be to install each one so aptitude / debian package manager registers that they aren't orphan. It won't reinstall them, it will just mark them as required.

Thanks Fewt, but apparently it's more complicated than that. I have the OOO repo in my list, but there's no external OOO packages avialable from it! I can't mark for installation because there's no pacakge there.

From what one source I found says (http://www.webupd8.org/2009/05/install- ... aunty.html), openoffice-pkgs has stopped carrying the releases. Looks like you have to add another repo to get it working again.

Still doesn't explain all the OTHER stuff that's now local only, but getting closer...

eeePC model: 4g surf (701
Aurora version: Base 3.0
Greetings,

I have a 4G 701 surf, running 3.0 basic. I have tried both fixes:

1)
System --> Administration --> Software Sources --> Third-Party Software.
Scroll down to near the bottom of the list and you will find the link for the eeebuntu repository. Click in the box to remove the tick. Close.
Then if you run Synaptic or Update Manager it should go in, check the lists and give you any updates that are found.

(no luck)

And

2)
wget -q http://eeebuntu.org/Eeebuntu.key | sudo apt-key add Eeebuntu.key

(terminal said OK, but still have:

Failed to fetch http://www.statux.org/ubuntu/dists/jaun ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.)

Tried both solutions, singly and in all combinations.

Not sure what to do? Still cannot update my system.

Thanks!

Statux repo is closed. Remove it, or ignore it.

Sorry trip, if you were replying to my old post I forgot to put sudo in first. It worked after that.
