Hi, I'm brand new to using Linux (less than 24 hours). I downloaded the current eeebuntu .iso yesterday and installed it on my brand new 1000HE and everything seemed fine.

I updated/upgraded what was available in the Synaptic package manager, and noticed some "404 not found" messages relating to eeepc-acpi-utilities. Then I noticed that the EeePCTray stopped working. Whenever I right-clicked on it, it would change the screen resolution.

I noticed this sticky: viewtopic.php?f=43&t=4047 which seems to cover this issue. I got as far as the first step, and again got a 404:

"W: Failed to fetch http://www.statux.org/ubuntu/pool/main/ ... 6_i386.deb
404 Not Found"

I didn't keep going because I didn't want to erase it if there is no update available.

So, is the update server temporarily down? Or is this no longer supported?

And what should I do at this point? Keep trying? Or reinstall the OS from the image, and never update anything?

Thanks!

PS: When I registered for the forum, I was asked to choose which version of eeebuntu I am running. Clicking System > About Eeebuntu produced this message: "The requested URI "ghelp:about-eeebuntu" is invalid". Is that normal?

The repo at Statux is closed. If you'd like the updated versions of the software, go to the link you posted, and click through to the various projects. Eventually you'll make it to Sourceforge, where you can download them.

Unfortunately, the help page has always been empty like that :|

Thanks for your fast reply. The version number on Sourceforge seems to be the same version I currently have installed, and reinstalling the one from there didn't fix the problem.

At this point I'm not going to worry about it, since it's hardly mission critical. I can still switch to an outside monitor using [Fn][F8], which is all I really needed the EeePC Tray for. I'll just wait until 4.0 comes out, which I assume will address this issue.

I have to say, as a brand new Linux user, this whole process has been much, much easier than I imagined. This netbook is an experiment for me, but if it keeps being this easy I'll switch all my machines over.

youre problem may be that the utilities are not up to date, go back to the sourceforge page and scroll down a bit, and youll see a package that is called eeepc-acpi-utilities, download it and try to install it, the eeepc tray is just the panel applet for the utilities.

Thanks Rusty. I believe that did the trick.
