Hi,

I just noticed that th package eeepc-acpi-utilities is available for update in Synaptec but it is greyed out and not updated. I tried sudo apt-get dist-upgrade but terminal says that one package hasn't been updated. Any ideas what's going on? I have an 901 with Eeebuntu 3.0 Standard.

Hi Brausepaul,

one possibility is that it is marked to keep the current version. Did you change something there?

Best regardsm

Sounds like the kernel module problem: you're updating to a version that requires netbook-dkms, which in turn conflicts with asus-eee-dkms. Update-manager is unable to uninstall programs, so it can't perform the update. If you run Synaptic, however, and mark all upgrades, it can uninstall asus-eee-dkms, so it will be able to install the update.

Did this and the update installed. Thanks.

Ok, good to know ... I always update manually via
Code:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

and never had problems with it. Your problem isanother good reason for me to continue updating manually ....

Best regards,

You need to run this update from inside the Synaptic Package Manager - NOT the Update Manager.

Why? Because there is a new dependency required for this to work. So, when you find it in Synaptic Package Manager and mark it for re-installation, it will then load the new dependency it needs.

And, THAT is the answer to your question with 100% certainty.

I believe the statux.org repo is not working any more.

I got it to work by going to Admin -> Software Sources -> Third Party Software and changing the distribution to "software"

Unfortunately, this looks like the last update from fewt. :(

Please remove the repository and consider the packages delivered with Eeebuntu your preferred source. The Eeebuntu repo hosts the 1.0 stable edition which is known to have no issues with the distribution.

I read that post today too, since it was on the front page of Reddit.
I'm sorry that the acpi utilities have been such a pain on Ubuntu, fewt. I'm sure it can seem like kind of a thankless job, but everybody really does appreciate all the stuff eeebuntu does.. Is there anything us regular users can do to help make it easier, like adding our voices to help get upstream patches accepted? Can we, I don't know, sign a petition or something to Ubuntu to get them to re-prioritize Eeebuntu related patches so you don't have to keep coming up with workarounds? Surely there's some sort of solution to help make everything cool and fun again.

Well I could still do with some pointers...

Made a big mistake by running janitor to clean up my system...

It told me I no longer needed
eeepc-tray
netbook-dkms - Two of these
eeepc=acpi-utilities - Two of these

It turns out that I do need them - Ha!

I could not re install them via synaptic or apt-get as it seems unable to find them in any of the repositories.

Tried complete removal of those apps via synaptic as there was what looked like a shadow of them all still there and thought that might be stopping the re install, this was not the case.

I now have no tray and so no control over wifi, cpu, etc...

Can anyone help me get these apps back?

Cheers

You can download eeepc-tray and eeepc-acpi-utilities from sourceforge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/eeepc-acpi-util/files/

After more poking about I resolved it...

Just re added the repository using instructions here

http://www.statux.org/content?page=repo

and then the apps were available again, installed and all is now working again.

Any idea why this is not in the eeebuntu repo?
