I've noticed that the last two times the Update manager has popped up with updates for me to install it has included an ACPI utilities update which is always unticked (unchecked) by default. No matter how hard I try I cannot tick and install it. I am also getting the strange 'unable to enable touchpad' message whenever I boot up and am wondering if they are related?

hp1,

As this is an ACPI question, I moved it from the NBR section to the ACPI section of the forum. Open a terminal and type:
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Same problem here.

When I do it on the CLI, I get the following, so still no joy on the upgrade:

The following packages have been kept back:
eeepc-acpi-utilities

Any ideas?
