There may already be a way to do this... if so, please do tell. Otherwise, I think it'd be helpful for the end of eeepc-acpi.local to have a setting to remember (and restore) brightness from one session to another. I like the screen dim (for battery)... it always starts out quite bright.
Just a thought, siege

I also noticed something strange and probably related.
After idling enough so that the screen dims, coming out of the idle state resets the brightness to full. In other words, my screen brightness is reset to maximum after my screen dims from inactivity.
During normal use, I dim the screen a bit (say to 70%)... after some inactivity, the screen automatically dims "a lot"... once I resume activity, the brightness goes back to 100% rather than back to 70%.

Agreed. Good point. I meant to mention this too.

That's an Ubuntu thing, you can adjust it using gconf-editor. Look in apps -> Gnome Power Manager -> Backlight.

Hmmm....well looking in the backlight section of gconf-editor, I am not sure what setting I should be seeing that changes the screen brightness after idle. Any ideas anyone?
