So.. I'm pretty happy with everything on my 1000HE, but the one thing I can't seem to master is the touchpad. Here's what I've done:
I removed /etc/acpi except /etc/acpi/eeepc and /etc/acpi/events/eeepc-hotkeys (doing this enabled me to changed power mode from the EEE PC tray applet).
I added /etc/hal/fdi/policy/shmconfig.fdi according to the wiki.
Now I can disable and enable the touchpad using the eee pc tray menu. BUT..
I can't enable/disable using fn+F3 (which would be pretty darned handy, don't you think?)
I can't get the touchpad to disable while I'm typing (the configuration file says it will disable for 0.5 seconds if i'm typing, but this obviously isn't working).
AND the biggie: the computer boots with the touchpad disabled! The only wan I can re-enable it is to plug in an external mouse.
So: I want the touchpad enabled on boot, disabled when typing and enable/disableable from the FN keys. What am I doing wrong????
One other thing: after all this "messing around" the touchpad sensitive area seems to be much smaller than it used to . I can easily find myself moving a finger around the perimeter of the touchpad and seeing no responsed from the cursor. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I don't know about the 100HE, but on my 901 all I had to do after the install and running updates, was modify my xorg.conf as per the wiki, and my touchpad is working as advertised.
