I not sure but i think this toppic belong in the ACPI section.

Is it possible to make the FN + F8 & F9 keys turn down only the master volume? As it is on my EEE 900 it turns down Master, PCM and Front and does that very slow. By turning all three down the volume get very low event at half volume. And the cpu can't keep up trying to turn all three nobs at once so it's very slow at starts up the fan due to heat.

Hope there a way to change this

I found the ACPI config file and tried the 'Fake'-audio setting. Now it works much better for me

You can put in "LineOut" or "PCM" instead of fake, too.
