back in the eeeuser forums many people reported having trouble with these flexible touch screen kits, mostly with the solderless ones coming with faulty controllers that cause many problems, in the most severe cases the controllers caused the motherboard to overheat and burnt it out, bricking the eeepc, if you got the solderless kit you should plug it in to the usb port first and check if it runs fine and does not over heat or anything.
the flexible touchscreens also have a history of shipping with wires that are wired wrong, so that when you try to use it, it does not work, in this case it requires a modification in which you have to kind of rewire the touchscreen yourself.

Sounds like a pretty crappy deal, rusty. And the people who buy solderless kits tend to be the people who know jack about electricity.

Short Update:
PDF-instructions for EEE PC 900, with pictures - nice? Sure, it would if the instuctions were right.
There is big mistake there. You don't have to disconnect the camera over the screen, like it's desired. That makes NO sense. The controller is a USB-Hub, with some ports. You plug in the controller on the mainboard, where the camera-connector is. You have to plug in the cable from the camera in one of the usb-ports on the controller.... Logical.
Some other little steps aren't described in the manual, so I got confused some times yesterday. Some tapes, the overheatening-protection aren't used in the manual. So what to do with them? You have to decide...
Besides the controller on the pictures is older than the one I buyed. But that isn't a big problem. It's looking almost identic.
All in all: DON'T DO IT YOURSELF, if sleight of your hand isn't good.
---
After installed the hardware (it was pretty nice, to look inside a EEE), I started the PC. Puh, my PC worked... The touchscreenkit was detected and installed without anything to do for. It can use a kernel-module, which is already there on my EEEBuntu (by the way: good work). We captured the signals from the touchscreen (like a mouse) and it was working! No need to rebuild the kernel or to build a module.
Then I used the setup.sh, with installed a calibration tool and updated the X-Cfg. Everything worked so far, but the X-Cfg is the problem! This doesn't work! But I think thats caused in HAL and the innovations in Ubuntu.
I don't know where I have to put in this information. In cause of this configuration-problem the touchscreen software don't recognizes the touchcontroller.

The touchkit is working PERFECT on Windows 7!
But I am not working perfect on Windows 7. What the hell is that? Get EEEbuntu 4.0 released! I want back Linux after 2 hours of Windows. xD A reinstall of 3 doesn't make sense, 'cause 4 is released soon (I pretend ).

Thanks!!!!!
Finally working.....noticed some touchscreen movement after upgrading/updating this week to latest upgrades/dates After that used your 'mini-tutorial' and ..... working now! Sweet!!! No i'm gonna install XBMC next!!!
My love for EB4 is 100% now!
Again...thanks Tomppa!
Well: it doesn't work 100% after dist-upgrade. It installs some software which 'also' reads the touchscreen, but i don't know which, therefore i can not un-install it. Anyone has a clue?
