In eeebuntu, when you start your PC you are coming to the preference window instead of the Desktop and I think that it is the place where you put all the applications you are using every day. Tell me if I am wrong. I think it's a very good idea to put there the icons you are using every day (or week) The question for me is "how do you do that ?" I found it : just clic on the icon you want to put in the proeference and slide it into the tab you want

Glad you figured it out, cause I still have no idea what a preference window. When I start my computer and boot into eeebuntu, I get the GDM where I can login and choose which desktop environment I'd like to start (gnome, lxde...)

Click around the tabs until you see DHCP and make sure it is enabled. Naturally, your router should be set up with DHCP enabled, too. After everything is set up, everything will be plug and play.

The problem was : you cannot configure a wired connection with fixed IP's. I solved it in directly writing the parameters in the /etc/network/interfaces.
Thanks for your attention
