Hi there,

I just picked up an old 900a for a song ("Fat Bottomed Girls" if it must be known) and want to do a few things to a) increase storage capacity, b) increase speed of read/write. I've seen some posts on replacement SSDs for the small 4GB drive on the 900a and was wondering if people had specific experiences with good/bad drives about which they would like to share. (Sharing is caring after all...)

Whether I do or do not end up getting a replacement drive, are there recommendations for an SDHC card? I've seen some tests with Patriot and other cards and read/write comparisons, but they were older tests with a slightly different machine than I have.

And last, I've seen some posts on file systems that have better read/write speeds on SSDs, but I wonder how these affect the use of Eeebuntu, whether a specific file system type is necessary for use with Eeebuntu, etc.

Thoughts?

Many thanks!

S

Newegg has replacement SSD drives. I have a Talon 32GB and it is great. I partitioned off a little for swap (yes swap on flash, sue me) and a very small Windows partition. Still have like a 22GB root. The only issue was moving the old install over to the new drive. Very annoying so if possible just do a clean install.

I use ext4 with the typical tweaks (30 second commit, noatime, etc.).

By the way, laptop memory is cheap and 2G of RAM really helps too.
