Every time my 1000HE goes to sleep and is woken up, wifi will not connect. Sometimes it recognizes the router but if it does, it repeatedly asks me to enter the password. I'm running standard.

Also, the sound is REALLY low and I can't figure out why. It wasn't this way with XP and i can't find a slidebar in the sound settings under system.

However needless to say, this is my first week with a linux-based OS

Wireless issue: I believe this is due to the new Atheros AR928X wifi adapter not being supported very completely by either the ath9k open-source driver, or by eeecontrol scripts (which also does not seem to work yet on the 1000HE). I would suggest just waiting a few weeks until this is straightened out (hopefully the admin is monitoring this thread and will respond as well). Hopefully you can get by the way things are working at present. The other way to go would be to use ndiswrapper and windows drivers, but this modifies your kernel (making it necessary to re-do this every time you update your kernel, which is a pain), and is a bit complex.

Congrats on installing eeebuntu; the steps to make a bootable usb are the barrier to installing this for many. You are obviously more adept than most, so I have no doubt that you will be able to make eeebuntu work very well for you.

Sound issue: Right-click on the speaker icon at the top right, open the mixer, set ALL sliders to max.

I have the same issue, but in addition to that, I can't get the wireless card to connect at any speeds beyond 1mb. It would be nice to have it connect at 54mb (wireless g) if not (wireless n) speeds.

I did try ndiswrapper and there was some error loading one of the dlls. I would rather use a native linux driver anyhow.

Note: If you install the scripts for the Asus 1000H, you can use fn + f2 to disable the wireless, then wait a about 10-20 seconds and hit the same key combination again and the wireless should be working properly again (albeit, that it is connected slow).

Use eeeconfigure. It's in the repositories if not already installed on your computer. Once started, select the model that you wish to use scripts for and follow the prompts.

I too am having issues with wifi on 1000he.

When I was running liveCD everything was working fine.

However, now my wifi isn't working. I can see the network I'm trying to connect to. However, when I type a password for the wifi, my password gets reset (some kind of hex code) to something I didn't enter. Therefore, seems my passowrd isn't being stored correctly in wifi utility.

Can somebody pleeeease help me? I really would like to resolve this so I could stop using #@!$@ Windows XP (since wifi works here)

THANKS!

I have the same problem with my 1000HE (regarding wireless breaking after a sleep). A stupid workaround I found was to do a sudo rmmod ath9k followed by a modprobe ath9k. It at least avoids a reboot.

I just installed eeebuntu on my new eeepc 1000 and was having the same problem connecting after waking from sleep.

I have sort of fixed it but every now and then it still wont connect.

-right click on the network icon in upper right hand corner
-choose edit connections
-choose wireless tab
-pick your connection (should be "auto" and then your ssid, eg. "auto linksys")
-at the top check the box that says "connect automatically"

Again, this doesn't completely solve the problem but helps. The same thing happens to me on another laptop when I upgraded it to ubuntu 8.10 from 8.04. The new network manager utility seems to have loads of problems.
