 Post subject: No hibernation option in eeebuntu 2(8.10 interpid)

eeePC model: 900A
I have no hibernate option in my eee901 wint eeebuntu 2.0.
Ram size is 1 GB, swap file is 2 GB.

What I should do to can hibernate?

Hi,
maybe your gnome-power-manager has the "can hibernate" flag turned off.
open gconf-editor on a terminal. search for gnome-power-manager.
look through the subfolders for the "can hibernate" key and enable it.

That worked a treat for me - hibernation seems fine. If it is that easy - the obvious next question is why was it disabled - I couldnt think of a system where it was more required than the eee pc.

For those not wanting to wade to find it - the option in gconf-editor is under apps/gnome-power-manager/general and is named "can_hibernate".

I flipped it to true, and sucessfully hibernated and resumed.

Is there any explanation why hibernation is not the default action? Or why it's disabled?

If I remember right, isn't Hibernation where the memory state is saved to the SSD?

Its probably disabled to reduce SSD wear.

Thanks for the advice on setting up Hibernate; worked perfectly.
Its always a mystery to find the right incantation with linux
