I can't get the microphone working, either with the sound recorder or skype. I've checked its not muted in the mixer, but any other ideas? I have noted the comments about skype on the
In Skype, no matter what microphone I use, the playback (once Skype replays what you jus said) is awful, suttering a lot, kinda like a bad reception on a cell phone.
I followed the guidelines above. My settings the following:
In system -> Preference -> Multimedia Systems Selector: Default output: Plugin: Custom Device: none Pipeline:halaudiosink udi=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_27d8_sound_card_0_oss_pcm_0_0
In system -> Preference -> Sound Preferences: HDA Intel ALC269 Analog (OSS) for sound events/Music and Movies/Audio Conferencing. Playback and Capture. (for some reason I have two of these that show in the drop down list). HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer) for Default Mixer Tracks.
System is a Eee 900a - 4 Gb SSD - 1 Gig ram. Running Skype "stand alone" 2.0.0.72
okay, i had this problem for ages (distorted, low volume mic) and just fixed it.
1. DO NOT change default audio to OSS as one post suggests (can damage speakers) 2. remove pulseaudio and all other unnecessary audio systems (just need alsa) - pulseaudio and oss were coming out distorted 3. in your ubuntu system prefs change the multimedia devices all to ALSA 4. in Skype options change all the devices to (hw:intel,0) and hit apply ("apply" button may be hidden off bottom of screen) 5. adjust audio in volume settings - make sure that Line-In and the others are all no more than about 80% volume.
