In my eee I run base on small ssd and standard on large ssd. now in both i noticed that booting with low battery caused some kind of refuse, from network manager, to recognize my wireless: as if wireless was not on. Booting with electric cable plugged, instead, always was successuful: wireless working, recognized and connected. So i tried this: in the base version of eee i installed wicd, deleting, with this (as is usual) network manager. so the bug of the low-battery-no-wirelesse disappeared: i am able to boot eee base with battery at 30%, and wireless works perfectly. The same boot on standard (network manager), means no connection: wireless dead. Looks like wicd is the solution. But (always a "but") with wicd i see this problem: umts internet connection via my nokia n70; with network manager this has been some kind of dream: system recognised instantly the usb cable connection, and internet connection has been set in about 3 clicks (total paradise). Pluggin my n70 with wicd simply give me no reaction from the partition running eee base. So, here is the question: where do i start, to config umts connection via usb cable, in wicd, using nokia n70? A simple link to start the study will be perfect, i found nothing useful.
