Hi all,

I have a 701 running Eeebuntu 2.0 Base.

Last week I booted and went to log in -- but it acted as though the 'Enter' key was stuck down (it was not) at the login dialogue, and I had to reboot several times before it stopped and I was able to log in and continue as normal.

A few days ago, I was in Firefox and Pidgin when it started acting 'funny' out of the blue -- this time as though the 'Esc' key was stuck down (it was not) -- immediately closing any menus or dialogue boxes I opened. It was somewhat sporadic, and I was able to reboot via the shutdown dialogue box, and when it came back up everything was fine.

Today it did the same thing (closing all menus/dialogs as soon as they're opened), with no apparent cause. It also scrolled to the top of every window as soon as the window received focus, as though Page Up was stuck down (it wasn't). This time wasn't anywhere near sporadic; I had to do a hard shutdown, as I couldn't access the shutdown dialog box. Upon boot it prompted me which storage device I should boot from (doesn't usually do this), and then prompted me to choose if I wanted to do a normal boot, a recovery boot, or a memtest boot. The keyboard worked fine for these prompts, but as soon as I boot normally or into recovery mode, the keyboard doesn't respond.

I am currently booted in normally, but using a USB mouse and keyboard to work.

I'm posting in the OS forum as opposed to the hardware forum because I'm inclined to believe the hardware is okay, as the trouble only starts when I'm in the OS.

If this was a Windows machine my first move would be to use Device Manager to remove and reinstall the keyboard and trackpad, but as a Linux newbie I have no idea how to go about that -- or even if there's a more logical approach here.

As an update, everything is now fine, though I obviously don't expect it to never happen again.

I spoke with my wife, who also uses the EEE, and she reports that the same thing has happened to her, and that a reboot always fixed it for her.

Again, any help would be much appreciated.
