eeePC model: 1000HE
Aurora version: NBR 3.0.1
1000HE came with XP. Using XP is like driving a 25-yr-old beat-up Ford Maverick.
Installing NBR 3.0.1 was an adventure. Wanting to have a dual-boot system, I tried to use Partition Magic to shrink the Windows partition to free up space for Eeebuntu. I've done this many times in the past but with the 1000HE Partition Magic just kept choking. After deleting all the little partitions for recovery and whatever it still wouldn't work. Apparently the BIOS in the HE uses some weird drive geometry that confuses Partition Magic.
So, Linux PartEd Magic to the rescue. Booted it from a USB stick prepared with Unetbootin and got the job done quick and easy. NBR installed easily and set up dual-boot for me.
I put the recovery image from the DVD on a USB flash drive and used it to install the factory image to the new Scorpio hard drive before doing all the above. Instructions on how to do that are at the link below if anyone is interested: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/windows:restorexp_from_usb Works well as long as you follow all the instructions.
Edit: A final note -- it really burns me that I had to buy (yet another) Windows license to get the hardware I wanted. I didn't see anyone selling the 1000HE with Linux on it and I rarely use Windows at all anymore but keep it around for certain tasks that I haven't yet figured out how to do in Linux.

My first Eee was a 4G Surf, upon which I installed 1.0Std, and later 2.0Base before trying out Crunchee and then selling it to purchase an Acer Aspire. I so liked the little Eee's form factor though that I just picked up a second hand 900 16GB. The first day I had it I blew away the XP image on it and installed 3.0 Standard. I really like having the extra capacity that came with this machine. The 1.3 Megapixel camera is a nice feature as well.
I do miss the LEDs up on the task bar for Caps Lock.

I got my 701 second hand, so no guarantees that it wasn't linux before that. The Eee's I see in the stores around town all have Windows on them; some with XP, and a few with 7.

I went from the default XP to UNR 9.04, to eeebuntu. Between UNR, and eeebuntu, there was a RAM failure, I just recovered today. Just in the nick of time, I think, as y'all are looking at leaving the Ubuntu base soon.

My Gateway 2032u came with Windows 7 of some kind. Tried eb but it doesn't support my ethernet nic and when I do an update I loose the wifi so for now it is running Karmic, waiting for eb4b. Blew Windows as soon as I plugged it in.

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my 900A which came with Xandros. It worked great except once in awhile it would not connect to the wifi while on the road. I stumbled across Eeebuntu and have been using it since. I haven't had any connection issues yet. There are several programs on the NBR version I don't need like the floppy formater but I'm still new to Linux. Is it better to install NBR and remove what I don't need or install Base and build from there?
I like the ease of use and speed of the original Xandros setup (full desktop mode) and aim to keep it for now until I learn more about Linux and EeeBuntu.
I have just set up EeeBuntu 2.0 Base (no updates - 242 available + '9.04' available!) on a 4GB SDHD (Class 6).

My EeePC900HA originally has Windows XP Home Edition installed in the c: drive. Abut three months ago, I installed Eeebuntu 3.0 Standard on the d: driver. Some good points of the Eeebuntu installation are:
1. The WIFI access is reliable always. The MozllaFfirefox 3.0.10 in this Eeebuntu installation is much faster than the XP Home IE. 2. The XP c: drive contents are accessible for read and write. But the XP can not access the d: drive any more. The reason, I beieve, is that the XP cannt recognize the ext3 file system type. 3. The multimedia applications have no problems of playing video and audio.
