eeePC model: 1000H
Aurora version: NBR 3.0.1
My Asus Eee PC 1000 came with Xandros which lasted about fifteen minutes.

I installed/upgraded the RAM to 2GB, updated the BIOS to 0913, loaded Eeebuntu NBR 2.0 onto a USB stick
with unetbootin, booted from the USB stick, and one hour later I was loaded for bear with NBR 2! 8)

This netbook has been great so far! And I'm just patiently awaiting NBR 3.0 (Ubuntu 9.04).

I wish I could have voted for both options, as I bought one of my netbooks with windows and another with linux.

eeePC model: 4g non-surf (701)
Aurora version: Base 3.0
Hello,

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 701 from a friend at work, who is upgrading to something with a bigger keyboard. He'd been using Xandros with the addition of VLC.

I liked the speed of Xandros, but hated the unfriendlyness of the interface management (no easy add/remove icons)

So I loaded UNR 9.04 - which turned out to have horrible problems linked to the intel driver & kernel problems. I never found the right combination of changes to make it run really well.

Rather than wait for eeebuntu NBR 3.0, or install the base version I loaded eeebuntu NBR 2.0 (i quite like the tabbed interface), and added eee-control.

It's fast (apart from flash videos, especially vimeo) and easy to tweak. I really like it.

I will try NBR 3.0 from a USB drive when it's available, and upgrade if there are no graphics problems.

Samsung NC10, came with windows.
Want to have a linux o/s for my netbook so I looked for the light ones, and find eeeBuntu standard. But I think I'm going to switch on Base or NBR, 'coz too many useless programs for me in Standard version.

That was the point of base. Standard and NBR have been created to help those with live usb sticks that need access to the most common apps without requiring a net connection and download/install them.

Steve.

My 1000HE had XP home on it. I immediately replaced that with XP Pro shrunken with Nlite. Still unsatisfied I looked for alternatives and found eeebuntu. I waited for 3.0 standard and installed it. I still have XP on it cause I have a few programs that require Win but for 90% or more of the time Eeebuntu is running.

Bought the eeePC 900a with Xandros. No way am I going to pay the Microsoft Tax.

I thought I'd give Xandros a try as it should be netbook/ssd/notebook optimized.
Ended up crashing Xandros while doing net upgrades. Had to reflash it twice before I found out it as nothing I did to screw up the install. As being a fairly seasoned admin on my computers with an eye to security, upgrades are kind of important and I wouldn't leave the eee open to hackers.
So I was at a bind trying to figure out what to do... As a hardcore Gentoo user, that's always an option as I've configured a SSD before with it - but wasn't pleasant. So I ended up thinking about giving some other distribution that was for the eee. Eeebuntu sounded like a good choice.

Though I'm still sticking with it currently I'm still kind of disappointed by the amount of disk writes eeebuntu does to my SSD. I was mostly able to get a Gentoo install with X11 to completely run off of ramdisk/read-only flash, so I knew it was possible... now I'm trying to backport these hacks...

My current Linux installs:
Gentoo-x86 (Core2, Pentium-M, Geode, Pentium-III)
Gentoo-x86_64 (P4)
Gentoo-ia64 (Itanium2)
DDWRT-mipsel (Broadcom)
eeebuntu-x86 (Atom)

I started from Xandros on a 901 - didn't want Windows anywhere near my computer.

The 900a came with Xandros on a 4GB SSD. I only booted up Xandros long enough to make sure the system worked ok, replaced the 4GB SSD with a 16GB and installed Eeebuntu NBR 3.0.1 and have not looked back.

Howdy. I just got a used 1000 with Xandros and switched to Eeebuntu the next day. This is my first Linux machine, and I'm loving it so far. The folks I bought my eee pc from said it had been used in a research class for less than an hour. It looks pristine, and I got if for $360US.

Thanks already for all of the help I've gotten by lurking here. This is a very generous group of people, I really appreciate you sharing your hard-earned knowledge.

I installed it on a 1000HE which came originally with XP.
After confirming it worked as supplied, I swapped the RAM for a 2GB stick and swapped the hard drive for a 320GB, 7200rpm unit with drop sensor.
I proceeded to try various distro's Debian Testing, Sidux and Arch Linux before trying Eeebuntu when 3.0 was launched.
I have stuck with it as it is pretty damn slick, which is quite something as I've typically not been a big fan of Ubuntu and its variants.

A big thank you to all the devs, a job well done. :D

An eee 900 that came preinstalled with a Dutch version of Xandros...
I've been playing around for a couple of years now with different distros, yet I've always returned to Ubuntu, ergo I gave eeebuntu a try! I like it so far ;-)

ps. after being a member for several years on the main ubuntu forum, I decided to give this one a try... always willing to pick up some tricks and tips!
